Description

As part of a broad institutional initiative in integrative biomedical sciences (IBio), Wayne State University is recruiting for faculty positions (tenured or tenure-track, open rank) in the integrative biology of cardiometabolic health and disease.

This recruitment seeks to complement existing IBio strengths in cell biology, lipid metabolism, and cardiometabolic physiology in the heart, kidney and vascular system. Of particular interest are investigators addressing molecular and cellular processes that impact energy metabolism, metabolic signaling, and cardiovascular function.

This initiative leverages a new 200,000 sq. ft. Integrative Biosciences Center (IBio) that houses coordinated inter- and trans-disciplinary research teams, preclinical laboratory space, and a Clinical Research Services Center. Programmatic themes include a focus on pathophysiologies and accumulated stressors affecting health in evolving urban environments with a strong emphasis on disease mechanisms, clinical translation and community health impact.

Faculty recruits to date as part of the IBio initiative (tenured, tenure-track, or research-track) have focused on six primary areas: Translational Neurosciences; Brain & Behavioral Health, Bio & Systems Engineering; Environmental Health Sciences; Metabolic Diseases (Cardiovascular, Diabetes and Obesity); and Urban Health Equity (health disparities). Each theme includes basic discovery-driven research as well as translational, community and implementation sciences cutting across schools and colleges, departments, programs, centers, and institutes.

Successful applicants will benefit from a highly collaborative research environment working with colleagues throughout the University.

Faculty recruits will integrate with departments and colleges or schools consistent with their areas of expertise and interests and engage in all aspects of our academic mission, including research, education and service.

Competitive recruitment packages are available with salary and faculty rank based on qualifications. Applicants should apply to posting
#046049 through the Online Hiring System (jobs.wayne.edu/hr). Applications will be accepted until positions are filled, but for full
consideration this fall, application materials should be submitted by September 1, 2022. Applications should include a curriculum vitae and a
brief cover letter to the Assistant Vice President for Integrative Biosciences indicating the applicant’s potential for synergy in the targeted
thematic areas.

Requirements

Successful applicants will benefit from a highly collaborative research environment working with colleagues throughout the University.
Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., or relevant equivalent degree with evidence of peer recognition in the field, a commitment to excellence
in research, education, and training, and the ability to engage with broader integrative science themes for the purpose of achieving
transformative and translational research gains. Applicants are expected to have already established extramural research funding or be on a
clear path to secure and sustain extramural funding in support of their research programs. Faculty recruits will integrate with departments
consistent with their areas of expertise and interests and engage in all aspects of our academic mission including research, education, and
service.
