SALARY RANGE
The advertised hiring range for the Wildlife Biologist is $70,080, - $87,600, with a maximum opportunity of up to $105,120, with tenure and strong performance.
Introductory Period: New employees holding regular positions must complete an introductory period of twelve months.

Wildlife Biologist
Overview
Under the direction of the Manager of Fish & Wildlife Operations, perform wildlife and habitat biological monitoring and study activities, in support of District plans or licensing efforts, and as required by regulatory agencies. Monitor threatened and endangered plant and wildlife on District properties and manage avian protection activities. Perform outdoor data collection, analyze data and prepare reports. Obtain regulatory agency permits. Coordinate the resolution of wildlife related issues on District properties. May lead and direct the work of seasonal wildlife helpers.
Responsibilities
Collect scientific information in the field, compile and analyze data, and prepare monitoring and compliance reports.
Coordinate wildlife monitoring efforts in support of District plans and Natural Resource program goals
Coordinate with District staff to resolve power line conflicts and nuisance wildlife issues on District properties.
Participate in Wildlife Program work planning. Assist with scheduling and establishing the priorities of seasonal wildlife helpers.
Provide support of environmental permitting projects or other Natural Resource department efforts.
Secure permits necessary to conduct wildlife program activities.
Maintain maps using mapping software.
Participate in Community and District environmental education projects.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
Monitor and update information on the Fish and Wildlife internet site.
As an essential function, drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree (B.S., B.A) in Biology, Wildlife Management, Natural Resource or a related field from a four-year college or university is required.
- Equivalent experience (year for year) may substitute for required education.
Experience
- 4+ years performing wildlife monitoring or similar natural resource activities and experience in the following: Spreadsheets, Performing Data Entry, Analyzing Data, and Preparing Technical Reports required.
- Experience with mapping software and project management is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Driver's License at hire and WA Driver's License within 30 days of hire required.
Skills and Abilities
A fully skilled incumbent will have the following knowledge skills & abilities:
- Knowledge of Chelan County wildlife and plant species, permitting regulatory requirements, and environmental mitigation techniques.
- Knowledge of electrical delivery systems and impacts on wildlife habitat.
- Well-developed technical writing and strong communication skills.
- Ability to safely operate outboard motorboats.
- Ability to correctly identify plant and wildlife through the use of botanical and animal identification guides.
- Capable of hiking over steep terrain while carrying up to 30 lbs.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials (preferred) Accounting software; PeopleSoft Timekeeping (required) Human Resource systems; Maximo (preferred) asset management systems; Microsoft Outlook (required) contact management systems, Microsoft Excel (required) spreadsheet software, Microsoft PowerPoint (required) presentation software, Microsoft Access (preferred) database software; and Microsoft
