Description
The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) is seeking a candidate for the position of Technology Manager to work under the general supervision of the Deputy Executive Director of Administration & Operations to coordinate, plan, organize and implement all technology-related activities of a regional planning office in coordination with a managed IT services provider. This position is responsible for all aspects of the organization’s technology needs including servers, workstations, portable laptops, network, internet, phone system, video conferencing equipment, audio recording of meetings and the IT budget. The Technology Manager works closely with the organization’s managed IT services provider in maintaining the organization’s effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting daily IT and audio-visual (AV) needs. The successful candidate should have considerable professional experience (5-7 years) in the technology field and a customer service oriented approach, as excellent customer service is essential to the success of this position.
Requirements
- Continually evaluate performance of the HRPDC/HRTPO’s current technology’s effectiveness to meet organizational needs
- Be proficient in Microsoft 365 platform
- In collaboration with HRPDC/HRTPO staff, identify new equipment, processes, and/or alternatives to resolve problems or improve/enhance operations, taking into account special technology needs unique to the organization
- Coordinate with vendors of outsourced services, and promote an effective mix of in-house and outsourced services
- Work with IT Managed Services provider to identify, compare, select and implement technology solutions to meet current and future organizational needs
- Assist staff daily with technical, workstation, videoconferencing, conference room AV, and phone issues and solves problems through efficient technical support and effective customer service. Must be able to work well with staff and be proactive in addressing technology challenges.
- Provide technical support during in-person and virtual meetings, including running the technology for meetings. This will involve running PowerPoint presentations and other visual and audio aids during meetings as necessary
- Maintain HRPDC/HRTPO technology equipment inventory and recommend replacements/upgrades when equipment reaches end of serviceable life.
- Maintain awareness of up-to-date cybersecurity best practices and implement them in coordination with HRPDC/HRTPO leadership.
- Have the proven ability to develop and conduct training programs and workshops for staff on new computer programs, hardware, telephone systems, video-conferencing systems and/or other related systems as needed. Ability to write instructions for using conference room AV technology
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills to provide exceptional customer service to staff and other stakeholders.
- Have the ability to research and evaluate alternative solutions or approaches to a variety of technological situations
- Have experience in administering and programming a VOIP telephone system
- Have ability and experience to providing technical support in an IT environment utilizing GIS enterprise and modeling technology or a willingness to learn to effectively troubleshoot industry-specific software.
- Have excellent customer service skills to work with internal staff and external stakeholders – essential to the success of this position.
