Superintendent- Briggs Ranch Golf ClubJust west of San Antonio, Texas lies Briggs Ranch Golf Club opened in 2001. This private club was purchased in 2017 by Dormie Network. The facility has cottages totaling 60 beds. The course was designed by famed golf course architect Tom Fazio and has hosted USGA, Texas State Golf Association, and Korn Ferry Tour events in the past. Dormie Network has blended Briggs Ranch into its offering of national private clubs centered around giving its members upstanding golf course conditions, amazing hospitality and service, and exquisite culinary offerings. Truly a course interesting enough to play everyday, Briggs Ranch is the epitome of pure understated Texas golf. The massive iron gate greets you at Briggs Ranch, but once you drive past the Spanish-style clubhouse and hook right to pass the lit putting green, the casitas are what truly bring you home. Education and Experience
- Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree in related field, higher preferred
- At least two years experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
- Must possess Texas State Pesticide License or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
Job Summary
Responsible for managing the maintenance operation of the golf course and associated grounds under the direction of the Briggs Ranch Director of Agronomy. Implements Landscape Management Company policies and procedures, create and monitor the operating budget, and manage the maintenance staff. Must have the ability to maintain greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and other facilities to excellent standards. Responsible for maintenance equipment and facility maintenance.
Essential Job Functions
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Directs and implements the policies and procedures established by Dormie Network.
- Supervises and manages the upkeep of the golf course property which includes the course, maintenance equipment, golf car fleet, recreation facilities, open spaces, wooded areas, and unused acreage.
- Supervises the crews completing the maintenance and project work for the course. Assists with manual labor associated with maintenance and project work as necessary.
- Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
-Hires and trains department staff on procedures and processes.
-Possess an understanding of the game of golf
-Monitors compliance with departmental purchasing policies and procedure
-Monitors the scheduling of all maintenance operations and directs work of the staff team members within the Department
-Adheres to Dormie Network policies and procedures
-Must be well groomed at all times while on property
-Must be well mannered, display a smile at all times, greet guest, members, and fellow employees when encountered, show appreciation to the guests and the members, and demonstrate a willingness to help guests and members at all times
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Requires working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivation, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls
- Requires a high degree of administrative and management ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making

- Requires knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations.
- Ability to operate and maintain tools and machines associated with the upkeep of the golf course

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
- Oversee daily operation of department.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Able to walk and maneuver on uneven surface.
- Able to bend, crouch, stretch, push, pull and move as needed to utilize machinery and equipment.
- Must be able to visually inspect machinery, materials and course quality.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to drive local machinery, if licensed.
- Able to communicate with others.
- Able to operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a calculator or printer.
