In Kansas City, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Kansas City National Security Campus. This state-of-the-art engineering, manufacturing and sourcing facility produces a wide array of intricate components to deliver trusted national security products and government services primarily for the NNSA. Summary
The Sr Systems Administrator performs and oversees a variety of functions to ensure IT infrastructure is available, reliable, secure, and stable. They will apply advanced judgment and analysis in the evaluation, selection, installation, and maintenance of systems software and hardware. This role will be responsible for monitoring systems and serving as a focal point for support. The Sr Systems Administrator will plan for the future by setting and documenting direction for their specific area of responsibility for the information systems infrastructure is expected.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Independent ability to quickly analyze, isolate and diagnose complex problems, recommend remedial actions, and implement resolutions
- Applies advanced technical methodologies to the computing infrastructure, monitor operating efficiencies, performance tuning and assist in capacity planning
- Reviews, evaluates and recommends new or upgraded systems software packages and related hardware, based on established standards
- Develops detailed implementation plans based on the architectural plans and complete implementation
- Serves as Technical Lead on medium to large enterprise projects according to division standards and requirements
- Transforms business requirements into technical architecture requirements and design application architectures, which are scalable, robust, and manageable, while balancing the price/performance
- Works closely and escalates issues directly with vendors to ensure that supporting operating systems are compliant with applications, including required patch levels, hot fixes, and revisions
- Implements application and database high availability techniques and application/network security concepts
You Must Have
- 5+ years of systems administration combined experience in Linux/Hadoop Administration
- Bachelor's degree in the field of Information Systems, Computer Science or related field
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
- United States Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
We Value
- Understanding of Hadoop ecosystem technologies (Apache Spark, HDFS, Hive, Ranger, Kafka, NiFi, Hbase, Yarn, Zookeeper, etc)
- Hadoop Certifications desired
- Familiarity with setup/configuration of Cloudera Data Platform, Cloudera DataFlow
- Advanced knowledge of specific operating systems (Linux), servers, and shell scripting
- Demonstrated experience with databases (i.e., SQL, NoSQL, Hive, Cassandra, In Memory, MongoDB, HBase)
- Effective communication skills to partner closely with citizen analysts and Data Scientists
- Demonstrated experience with Python programming language
- Ability to develop and communicate a technical vision that is easily understood by all levels of management
- Highly skilled in scripting tools (like PowerShell, Puppet, Perl, Python) to support database, web, and application administration
- Proven ability to mentor peers to better results and identify appropriate training to improve team's technical bench strength
- Knowledge and experienced with installation, configuration and administration of enterprise web services, application servers, databases, clustering backup and recovery systems, portals, firewalls, virtual private networks, terminal services, authentication and authorization, collaboration, and load balancing
- Master's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Data Science/Analytics preferred
