The Bloomberg Overdose Prevention Initiative is seeking a Senior Research Program Coordinator to join their team and support a multi-organization effort to combat the overdose epidemic through the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based interventions across seven states, as well as efforts to guide best practices in state and local opioid settlement fund (OSF) spending. The Initiative focuses upon several core strategies, including the conducting rapid-cycle technical assistance and research projects to improve community-based overdose prevention programs; summarizing research on medication treatment and harm reduction policy for lay and policy audiences; and the development of tools and guidelines to support states and localities to adopt best practices in evidence-based programming/OSF spending.This position will serve as a coordinator for the Initiative, supporting the team's efforts across these domains. They will work under the direction of the Program Director and Principal Investigator and collaborate closely on a range of projects focused on state and local-level harm reduction/overdose prevention interventions and OSF use. This role will predominantly involve project management and coordination but includes opportunities for primary data collection, analysis, manuscript authorship, conference presentations, and other forms of content creation. The position is situated within the Department of Health Policy and Management within the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate success in oversight and coordination of programs, policies, or health-related interventions and be highly organized with clear communication skills, both written and verbal. This role is ideal for someone interested in state policy, overdose prevention, harm reduction programming, and the translation of research into practice. A successful applicant will be someone who can operate well both independently and within a team environment, is comfortable taking initiative and assuming a leadership role, and demonstrates careful attention to detail. This is an exciting opportunity to engage in vital overdose prevention/harm reduction work at a key moment in the country's efforts to abate the harms of the opioid epidemic.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Create first drafts of the team's monthly and quarterly reports to funders. This will involve establishing a process to track the team's progress on deliverables and updating reports accordingly.
- Oversee the process for creating and publishing new content on the Bloomberg Overdose Prevention Initiative's website, including blog posts, quickguides, and other such resources. Candidate will also have the opportunity to engage in the writing/creation of these materials on their own or through relationship-building and idea generation with external partners.
- Manage the OpioidPrinciples email account, including processing Principles for use of opioid settlement fund endorsement requests, responding to general contact forms, and overseeing other types of outreach.
- Develop and execute a communications strategy for the Initiative, including management of social media accounts and other forms of external communications to disseminate the work of the Initiative through informal channels.
- Identify opportunities for dissemination of the Initiative's research through formal, academic channels including (but not limited to) identifying calls for manuscripts for special issues of relevant journals, tracking submission deadlines, and national meetings/conferences.
- Identify material for the Initiative's monthly newsletter, including relevant news articles, newly developed internal or external resources, and updates from partner agencies (both within the initiative and across other agencies).
- Participate in the Opioid Settlement Fund state and county-level tracking project, including researching 2025 spending, engaging with leadership on dissemination and publication opportunities, and providing oversight to the project to ensure deadlines are met. Support communications with external partners and state leads throughout the project duration.
- Support the dissemination of evaluation projects, including by conducting literature reviews, supporting manuscript development, assisting in the creation of conference presentations, or preparing reports/other such materials. Candidate will have opportunities if desired to lead some of these efforts, including through authoring manuscripts or presenting findings within conferences or public events.
- Provide research support including data cleaning, qualitative data collection, IRB management, and managing participant recruitment and renumeration.
- Maintain an up-to-date tracker to monitor the status of evaluation projects.
- Coordinate and lead evaluation team meetings, including drafting meeting agendas, capturing meeting minutes, and ensuring follow-up items are addressed.
- Attend meetings with partners within the Initiative and generate summaries to disseminate to team members.
- Provide administrative support to the team in the form of coordinating meetings, assisting with conference abstract submission planning and registration, and other activities as needed.
- Maintain an up-to-date list of the Initiative's products and impact, including published manuscripts, news appearances, conference presentations, and mentions of the Principles.
- Plan logistics for occasional team events ( i.e., travel, event venue(s), meeting rooms, A/V needs, food/catering, signage, event agenda etc). This may include securing presenters/speakers, assisting with the development and dissemination of communications, or other general coordination activities.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Familiarity with the tasks and skills associated with qualitative and quantitative research, program implementation/ evaluation, and use of project management/organization tools.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Three years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond High School Diploma or graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in public health, public policy, public administration, health communication, or related field.
- Four years of experience in research-related activities including intervention design/implementation, program evaluation, or project management with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Experience developing/implementing/managing systems to effectively organize research-related processes, activities, outputs, etc.

Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
