Position Summary
The Capital Planning & Portfolio Governance Senior Manager will manage the prioritization, funding, and measurement of IT investments across a portfolio of projects that deliver cost savings and incremental revenue within the Finance Value Pool. Supporting the VP of the Finance Value Pool, the Sr Manager will oversee a portfolio of over 1,000,000 hours and over $80,000,000, shepherding the investments to ensure that IT labor and dollars are invested in the projects that deliver maximum results. The Sr Manager will be a thought partner to the VP of the Financial Value Pool, offering insights and potential solutions to complex situations. The Sr Manager will advocate for the Finance Value Pool, influencing senior executives to obtain investments and retain the investments the Finance Value Pool already has. The Sr Manager will need to be quick to adjust approach as funding situations change and as new needs arise; creatively swerve to identify and secure the optimal outcome in a changing landscape.
Key Activities Include
- Review business cases, establishing funding standards and frameworks, ranking projects, and identifying paths to achieve the outcomes needed when tough funding choices need to be made
- Establish performance metrics that demonstrate the result of the portfolio and track execution against those metrics to demonstrate success and/or to identify places where a change is needed.
- Engage in ad hoc workstreams beyond capital for which their business acumen is needed, such as business case development, initiating/refreshing program roadmaps, identifying KPIs, ROI analysis, etc.
- Multiply your impact beyond their direct team by working through partners throughout the business, including Product owners, IT PMO, Portfolio Management Team (PMT), Finance, Project Management, data teams, Operations, and many others.
- Lead monthly portfolio updates for the Financial Value Pool.
- Provide key inputs on successes, upcoming priorities, and risks for executive leadership updates
- Monitor program Objectives & Key Results (OKRs) for the Value Pool; working with teams to drive any off-schedule activities back to green (on track status).
- Provide ad-hoc support for executive leadership teams and business stakeholders as it relates to financial components of the value pool.
- Establish governance protocols for sustainment of best practices; creating SOPs and documenting lessons learned for continuous improvement.
To be a candidate for this role you will possess the following:
- Ability to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders simultaneously, including partners that have conflicting objectives.
- Ability to effectively communicate with both senior and junior audiences, including influencing executives, presenting to large audiences with several questions, and translating complex quantitative considerations to a message that non-quantitative colleagues can easily understand.
- Ability to prioritize investments, distinguishing between the must-haves, the nice-to-haves, and those that are not worth the expense.
- Ability to swerve quickly, adjust to changing circumstances, and identify creative solutions to brand new challenges.
- Ability to work through partner teams to drive an impact.

This role is work at home flexible. It can be based remotely in the U.S. or near one of the campuses mentioned below. If you are commutable to one of the following Corporate Hubs, you must work in the office 2 or more days a week:
- IL-Northbrook
- TX-Irving
- CT-Hartford
- AZ-Scottsdale
- RI-Cumberland
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of strategic and/or financial experience
- 5+ years of strong analytical knowledge base and financial acumen, with proven ability to vision, strategize, and develop actionable tactics against key facts and data insights
- 5+ years of excellent organizational and time management skills with an ability to successfully balance business priorities and maintain a sense of urgency
- 5+ years of experience in problem solving, identify, and remove roadblocks, triage, and prioritize issues
- 5+ years of strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualification
- Extensive experience building financial forecasts. Experience managing the establishment and measurement of metrics and key performance indicators
- Experience managing a capital / IT investment portfolio
- Significant business, strategic and financial acumen
- Ability to coach colleagues across the broader department to enhance their ability to navigate capital, financials, metrics, and business cases
Education
Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred or relevant work experience
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$75,400.00 - $182,549.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
