Department Overview
Client Service Section in Business Support Development Department within the Commerce & Marketing Company is responsible for a portion of the Rakuten Merchant Server (RMS) - an ASP service provided to merchants on Rakuten Ichiba - as well as various applications that support the business staff who operate Rakuten Ichiba both domestically and internationally.
Specifically, our section develops and operates systems that provide functions for Rakuten Ichiba merchants, including
-Chat functionality that facilitates communication between merchants and Rakuten, as well as between merchants and shoppers.
-Data analysis functionality that visualizes data related to store operational status.
For this position, we are seeking a Product Manager for "R-Messe" (Chat functionality between merchants and shoppers) and "RMS AI Chat." (Chat functionality between Rakuten and merchants).
We are looking for individuals who can take charge of these innovative, AI-powered services, from strategic planning through to development.

Position Details
As a Product Manager, you will be responsible for the following:
Product Strategy and Vision Development
- Develop mid-to-long-term vision and roadmap for the product.
- Plan and propose new features leveraging AI technology.
- Formulate differentiation strategies based on competitive analysis and market research.
Stakeholder Management
- Understand merchant needs and define requirements.
- Provide regular progress reports and explain business impact to executive management.
- Strengthen collaboration with sales and customer support departments.
Product Development Management
- Identify issues, conduct data analysis, set KPIs, and define requirements.
- Prioritize feature development and plan releases based on strategy.
- Improve AI model accuracy and optimize user experience.
Team Collaboration and Project Management
- Collaborate closely with lead engineers and development teams.
- Manage project scope, budget, and timelines.
- Collaborate and information sharing with other Product Managers.
Data-Driven Improvement
- Analyze usage data and extract insights.
- Plan, execute, and evaluate A/B tests.
- Implement continuous improvements based on customer feedback.
Quality Assurance and Release
- Plan and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Monitor post-release performance and address issues.
- Plan and create user announcements and educational content.
Work Environment
The Client Service Development Section is divided into three groups based on roles:Product Development Group/Product Management Group/SRE Group.
The Product Development Group/Product Management Group/SRE Groups collaborate to develop and operate the services mentioned above.
Since our offices are in Tokyo, Osaka, and Sendai, remote communication may be required depending on the service.
Mandatory Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager or in a similar role.
- Ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into system definitions and designs.
- Ability to identify issues within the assigned product and propose solutions.
- Excellent communication skills (Business level proficiency in Japanese and English is required).
- Experience in data-driven decision making.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in Product Management for AI-powered systems, especially with chatbots and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
- Experience with B2B SaaS products.
- Experience working with e-commerce platforms or marketplaces.
- Experience in system development and/or product development.
- Experience in roles with high accountability.
- Experience in improving internal operations.
- Experience leading a small team.
- Experience in data analysis using BI tools (Tableau, Looker etc.).
- Skills in data extraction and analysis using SQL.
