Description
The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking a postdoctoral research scholar to join Dr. Karen Watanabe’s research team. Dr. Watanabe’s research focuses on the development of mathematical and computational models of biological systems. This position is supported by an NIH Virtual Consortium for Translational/Transdisciplinary Environmental Research (ViCTER) grant, “In Vitro to In Vivo Extrapolation of Toxicant Effects on Ovarian Function” and will focus on phthalates and developing models that extrapolate in vitro assay results to predict in vivo effects on ovarian function in mice and monkeys.
The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in toxicology, molecular/cellular biology, reproductive endocrinology, or bioengineering and have a strong interest in the development of mathematical/computational models for use in chemical risk assessment. Experience with the kinetics and effects of phthalates, toxicologically relevant transcription factor receptors, e.g., peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR), or the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in mice or monkeys is desired. We are looking for an individual who works well in an interdisciplinary team across multiple institutions and who understands the level of detail needed to develop predictive models for in vitro to in vivo extrapolation and chemical risk assessment. Our team’s long-term goal is to develop a New Approach Methodology for identifying chemicals that may cause female reproductive toxicity.
Salary Range: $61,008 to $66,000 commensurate with experience. This postdoctoral scholar appointment may be supported through 1/31/27, depending on performance and the availability of funding.
