Description
WCCFA is seeking a dedicated and qualified Paintings Conservator to work at the WCCFA Denver conservation lab and in the field. In this role, the candidate will be an integral part of a team of seasoned conservation professionals who specialize in the preservation of paintings and murals, ensuring the highest standards of quality and care.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Examines artwork, documents existing conditions, and provides recommendations for conservation treatment durations
- Undertakes required hands-on treatments and assessments
- Provides treatment proposals, estimates, examination and condition reports, and final treatment reports in a timely manner, managing priorities and meeting deadlines while adhering to conservation standards for care
- Carries out treatment photography per AIC standards
- Responsible for conducting research related to the care and preservation of paintings and specific projects, and staying up to date on advancements in conservation practices
- Engages and communicates with WCCFA clients using the highest service standards, from project intake to completion
- Advises on preventative conservation practices and strategies, environmental control monitoring, framing techniques, and processes
- Participates in the upkeep of the WCCFA conservation lab, advising on equipment upgrades, materials, and supply inventory
Qualifications:
- Candidate must be a consummate professional, who is looking for a long-term career commitment with self-directed and self-managed daily goals
- Minimum 5 years of professional conservation experience
- All work must be performed in accordance with the AIC Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice
- Education qualifications: A master’s degree from a recognized art conservation program with specialization in paintings is required
- Possesses sophisticated skills in hands-on treatment
- Capable of safely lifting 40 lbs., with experience in working on scaffoldings and ladders
- Available for fieldwork and infrequent travel
- Professional competence with computer programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook and ability to learn new software as needed
- Has high-level verbal communication skills, retaining a collaborative and interactive spirit among a group environment, actively communicating with staff and colleagues both in person and through virtual, long-distance communication with Denver and Miami office/lab locations, as well as any other fieldwork locations
- Maintains an effective working relationship with WCCFA clients, colleagues, and vendors by contributing to a positive organizational and culture based on mutual respect, collegiality, collaboration, and openness to many perspectives
- Technician and intern management experience
- Candidate must be allowed to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in art handling, framing techniques, photodocumentation, and Adobe photo editing software
- Familiarity with project management and time-tracking software systems
- Maintains current and pursues new collaborations with research institutions and conservation programs
- Willing to share scholarly research through presentations and publications while representing WCCFA at educational or public events and at national and international conferences
