Description
The HR Recruiting, Onboarding, and Retention Specialist plays a critical role in talent acquisition and employee development across the college. This position manages the full recruitment cycle, supports inclusive and effective onboarding processes, and helps drive employee engagement and retention through targeted training and professional development programs. As the college’s subject matter expert in these areas, the Specialist collaborates with stakeholders across departments to ensure employees are equipped to thrive in their roles and contribute meaningfully to the college’s mission.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
Manage the entire recruitment cycle, including crafting and posting job advertisements, screening applicants, coordinating interview processes, and facilitating final hiring decisions.
Collaborate with hiring managers and the HR team to understand position requirements and duties to ensure positions are filled with qualified candidates. Utilize major job portals such as Indeed and LinkedIn to attract top talent.
Ensure that requested positions are budgeted and approved by the applicable division lead and finance office.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures for effective employee search practices. Support campus departments in the development, coordination, and direction of an employment search team and provide recordkeeping and filing of the search process and outcome.
Conduct comprehensive background checks to ensure compliance with legal standards and college policies.
Initiate job offers for successful candidates, ensuring the generated offer letter is electronically signed or manually signed and uploaded into the HR system and/or filed securely.
Accurately input new employee information into the Banner HR module/HR system(s), maintaining both confidentiality and data integrity.
Develop and refine onboarding programs to integrate new hires into college culture and their specific job roles effectively.
Collaborate with multiple departments such as IT and facilities to streamline the logistical aspects of onboarding, including workspace preparation and system access.
Engage consistently with new hires throughout their onboarding journey to resolve any issues and gather feedback to continually improve the onboarding process.
Collaborate with hiring managers to formulate effective 30-60-90-day plans for new hires, setting clear milestones and expectations that support successful onboarding and continuous development
Proactively develop, implement, and engage in methods to evaluate and assess employee satisfaction.
Collaborate with HR teammates on retention strategies and contribute data or observations to inform HR initiatives.
Design and deliver training modules on compliance, systems, and professional development topics that support diverse learning needs
Design interactive and multimedia learning and informational materials that engage learners and support varied learning styles.
Work closely with department heads to align training initiatives with business objectives and employee needs.
Lead and organize employee engagement initiatives, such as workshops and team-building activities, to boost morale and workplace satisfaction.
Support the coordination and facilitation of leadership development programming for managers and emerging leaders.
Create a universal development template for roles throughout the organization to standardize and streamline employee training processes.
Support and assist in coordinating events to develop employee groups and all campus employees in activities and training sponsored by HR.
Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, using feedback and performance metrics to refine learning outcomes.
Provide leadership and participation as a trainer on aspects of job relevant HR systems, policies, and procedures.
Participate and assist with the development of HR business processes by ongoing improvement of business flows, new systems, system enhancements, and implementation of best business practices.
Develop, update and maintain a campus job description and organizational charts database.
Assist in maintaining job band structures and participate in periodic reviews of classification standards.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 2 years related experience in Human Resources.
Must have excellent customer service and communication skills.
Knowledge of principles, methods and practices related to HR required.
Experience in higher education preferred.
General knowledge of employment laws helpful.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent communication skills required, both written and verbal; confident with public speaking and presenting to an audience.
Strong organizational and customer service skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and assignments.
Ability and willingness to work with minimal direction, a self-starter who can work effectively as a team member and independently.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Suite and Google products, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Gmail and ability to share documents. Operational knowledge of HRIS systems such as Banner, NeoEd and Jenzabar helpful.
