Description
Founding Product Manager at KomboBerlin, €75K - €105K EUR + Equity
Hi I'm Arne, Co-Founder and CPTO at Kombo.
I'm looking to hire a Senior Product Manager who will report directly to me, and own our ATS (Applicant Tracking System) vertical - a product portfolio worth millions and equivalent to half of the company's revenue that affects 10s of millions job seekers yearly.
I believe that great product work is more art than science. I also believe in product-minded engineering organizations where engineers own much more of the product lifecycle than typical. This means our PMs can focus on strategy, prioritization, and ensuring we build the right things for our customers. Until now, product work has been handled only by founders and our first employee, making this a unique founding PM opportunity with massive scope and impact.
If this sounds like the kind of challenge that excites you, I'd love to hear from you.
About Kombo
Kombo is building the unified API for ATS, HR, and payroll systems. Instead of companies spending months integrating with dozens of different systems, they can integrate once with Kombo and instantly connect to over 90 platforms. We abstract away the complexity of handling different data schemas, authentication methods, and API quirks.
Since going through Y Combinator in 2022, we:
- Grew from zero revenue to millions in ARR and hundreds of customers at a pace that puts among the ~top-5% of VC-backed startups
- Scaled to process data for the equivalent of 10% of Germany's workforce
- Raised $8M+ of funding from Y Combinator, 468 Capital and other top-tier investors
- Grew to a team of 40+ Kombies working across Berlin and NYC
The Problem
We've proven strong product-market fit, but product capacity is now the bottleneck to our growth.
While our engineering team grew to 20 people and our revenue and customer count more than doubled year-over-year, product work has remained concentrated with only me (with 50% of my capacity) and Marvin handling all product decisions - far too little for our ambitions and the opportunities ahead of us.
If we had more product capacity, we could unlock millions of revenue and improve hiring for millions of job seekers in the next few months alone.
This is where you come in.
Your Role
As our ATS Product Lead, you'll own the entire ATS integration vertical end-to-end - from strategy to execution. This is a founding PM role with high visibility and direct impact on company growth.
In the short term, you will collaborate closely with me and focus on execution of individual projects as you familiarize yourself with our space, customers, and how we do product at Kombo.
In the long term, you will own the complete roadmap for the ATS vertical. You will be a significant contributor to our overall product strategy and hugely impact our product velocity and quality.
Your core responsibilities:
- Own the ATS vertical strategy: Chart the product roadmap and strategy for all ATS use cases using our API, working closely with our product engineers
- Coach and guide engineers: Serve as product stakeholder during initiatives, challenging and coaching engineers when they go off-track
- Become the market expert: Build deep relationships with 5-10+ leading product leaders in recruiting and AI use cases at companies like Mercor, Checkr, Gem, WTTJ, or HireVue - you should understand these markets as well as PMs at the respective companies
- Lead major initiatives: Project manage complex features from conception to launch
- Drive customer understanding: Conduct user research, run customer interviews, and educate the entire company about recruiting use cases using our API
Recent projects you would have owned:
- Assessing the assessment vertical: running a growth review for our ATS assessment use case and defining the roadmap together with the squad
- Interview scheduling support: Investigating how interview scheduling works across various ATS platforms and designing our API approach
- Filtering feature: scoping out the problem and solution in-close collaboration with an engineer and then organising an internal education session
- Improved disposition data: Researching industry needs on tracking and speccing technical requirements
Ultimately, you are responsible for picking the right priorities and ensuring excellent execution across both product quality and velocity.
About You
This role is likely a great fit for technical product managers that have worked in a high-growth environment before. Past or aspiring founders with previous product experience are likely a great fit as well.
Descriptions that match you:
You have deep curiosity about infra/embedded products - you want to become an expert on how to build an API product and build relationships with key industry players at companies like Mercor, Checkr, Gem, WTTJ, or HireVue
You can demonstrate product taste - you have good judgment on features, user experience, and can scope innovative solutions based on user problems
You're an excellent writer and synthesizer - you bring product knowledge and clarity to the entire organization and enable Engineers with product insights
You are a strong strategist - you can communicate priorities using a sound strategy that combines principled thinking, research, and data
You have strong project management skills - you successfully shipped complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and can coach engineers for how to do the same
You understand APIs and technical products - you have no problem reading API documentation to understand a complex integration yourself and you can reason about technical concepts
What It's Like To Work at Kombo
Our culture is built around two pillars: high ambition (and thus high-performance) while still providing a fun and supportive environment.
Some tidbits that illustrate this:
- Our growth puts us into the ~top-5% of VC companies and we have the ambition to keep this pace
- We aspire to create an environment of few but very high-performing team members (similar to Ashby or Netflix)
- Even though we are in-office, we have a strong writing culture and use long-form documents to make important (one-way) decisions because we believe we make better decisions this way
- On average, we get together for a company-wide celebration ~once a week (larger feature release, big new closing, anniversary or birthday!)
- We have a well-established Meme culture:
Closing
This is a rare opportunity to be the founding product manager for a fast-growing, well-funded API company with proven product-market fit. You'll own a product vertical affecting 10's of millions of job seekers yearly while working directly with founders in a high visibility role with heightened career progression.
If this sounds appealing to you, please apply! even if you don't match all criteria
