Finance Director
Mike Thurmond for Governor
Mike Thurmond's campaign for Governor of Georgia is seeking a Finance Director to lead our fundraising efforts in what will be one of our best opportunities to flip a governorship from red to blue in the 2026 cycle.
The Finance Director will work with the candidate and consultants to build and execute a comprehensive finance plan that includes aggressive call time, events, and digital fundraising. They will be responsible for developing the plan, cultivating donors, performing donor research, managing call time, and ensuring the successful planning and execution of host-led events.
This job is full-time, in-person. Candidates should be located in, or prepared to relocate to, the Metro Atlanta area.
Responsibilities:
- Planning & Strategy: Build a realistic finance plan; set weekly/monthly/quarterly targets; track pipeline and cash-in; align with the campaign manager/treasurer on budget needs
- Donor Research & Cultivation: Identify prospects, expand the donor base, and maintain relationships via calls, emails, meetings; manage pledges and timely follow-up/thank-yous
- Call Time Management: Prepare call sheets and briefings; staff candidate call time; log notes and outcomes; drive next steps until dollars are in the door
- Events: Plan and run local fundraising events end-to-end; coordinate finance travel, local meetings, and event holds with the manager/scheduler; liaise with hosts, finance committee members, and bundlers
- Digital Fundraising: Work with the campaign’s digital fundraising firm to maximize SMS and email fundraising program
- Data, Reporting & Compliance: Work with campaign compliance firm to maintain accurate records with daily processing and weekly reporting; process deposits and reconciliation, support compliance by following federal, state, and local rules and maintaining required documentation
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 1 full cycle of political, nonprofit, or campaign fundraising experience
- Experience working directly with a candidate or principal
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
- Strong communication skills, both internal and external
- Proficiency in campaign finance software
- Willingness to work a campaign schedule, including some travel (estimated 30%) and irregular hours
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License and reliable access to a car
Preferred Qualifications:
- Multiple cycles of experience leading a campaign fundraising program
- Experience raising funds for non-federal races
- Experience with political fundraising in the state of Georgia
