General Description
The Family Enhancement Worker provides short-term supportive assistance alongside the case managers in carrying out the delivery of program services to families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Position-Specific
- Conduct collateral contacts with client by telephone or in person to assess needs.
- Responsible for updating the worker and supervisor of the assigned case regarding contact made with family.
- Provide clients with community-based resource information, as needed.
- Provide casework assistance to case managers as directed by director or supervisors that include obtaining documentation i.e., consent for release of information forms.
- Demonstrates a knowledge and acceptance of Agency policies and procedures and the policies and procedures of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) including procedures related to confidentiality.
- Provide transportation for clients to various appointments such as doctor, WIC, school, etc.
- Provide assistance to the client to enhance accessibility to service delivery such as household/grocery budgeting, assistance with shopping for/with the client, assist client with maintaining/cleaning the home, provide medical education if needed, assist with client with weekly planning, etc.
- Participate in supervision between the intact specialist and supervisor, when requested, to discuss case dynamics.
- Assist with administrative duties such as copies, filing, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned by program director and team supervisors.
- Meet weekly with intact director for supervision.

Work Environment
This employee operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to move file boxes and operate a motor vehicle.
Expected Hours of Work
Work schedules are based on the needs of the children, youth and families served by the agency and often include nights and weekends. Specialists are expected to work 40 hours per week; work schedule to be developed with and approved by Supervisor. Hours worked over 40 hours require Supervisory pre-approval. A work week is defined as Sunday to Saturday.
Travel
The Family Enhancement Worker travels throughout the Chicagoland area as required to meet the needs of assigned families and to participate in professional development activities.
Educational Requirements/General Qualifications
- Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma
- Degree Preferred: Bachelor's degree in social work or related field
- Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year of social service or related field experience
- Licensure: N/A
- Information Technology Skills Required: Microsoft Office Proficiency
- Other Requirements: Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and time management skills. Full time use of minimally insured, operating automobile and valid driver's license, as needed.
