Description
KMFA is looking for a seasoned accounting and finance professional to join our team as the Director of Finance & Administration (DFA). As a key member of the senior management team, the DFA provides strategic financial leadership and ensures effective systems are in place to deliver critical financial information to both senior management and the board. Reporting directly to the CEO, the DFA will oversee financial and administrative operations, including human resources and capital management. This hands-on manager will collaborate with all departments to support departmental goals, foster innovation, encourage staff development, and maintain open communication.
Essential Job Functions:
Financial Management
Lead the annual budgeting and planning process.
Prepare and present timely, accurate financial statements and accompanying reports to the leadership team.
Serve the board finance committee and prepare reports for committee and board meetings.
Conduct periodic re-forecasts, analyze financial data, and recommend adjustments as needed.
Develop long-term financial models to support strategic initiatives.
Oversee the annual audit process and manage the preparation of Federal 990 filings and other governmental returns in collaboration with an external CPA firm.
Monitor organizational cash flow and financial forecasting.
Reconcile individual giving, underwriting, and grant contributions in collaboration with the development team.
Assist development and underwriting staff with preparing and reconciling revenue reports.
Attend board meetings and present financial updates as required.
Human Resources, Facilities, and Administration
Oversee HR functions, ensuring best practices in professional development, compensation and benefits, performance evaluations, training, and recruitment.
Administer employee retirement plans (TIAA-CREF) and ensure EEO-compliant recruiting processes.
Foster a collaborative work environment across departments, including with engineering and IT teams, for effective administrative support.
Manage relationships with property management, vendors, and banking partners.
Ensure efficient operations of facilities, particularly as the organization grows.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (or equivalent experience). At least 5 years of nonprofit financial management experience, with expertise in finance, HR, and administration.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage 50, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of GAAP, audit preparation, tax returns, and grants management.
Skills & Competencies: Ability to translate financial data to non-finance staff, manage multiple priorities, and demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
Additional Preferences: Appreciation of classical music and public radio experience.
