About the role:
As the Director Biostatistics, you influence and drive statistical strategy and innovation directly, taking part in cross-functional collaboration and decision making for program(s) within medical affairs. In this role, you will lead and integrate input from different quantitative scientists impacting clinical development, health authority interactions, represent the biostatistics function at internal and external decision boards, develop and mentor other statisticians, and provide strategic, technical, operational and scientific leadership and solutions to the organization.
Job Description
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure expert level contribution to strategy (design, analysis/synthesis, interpretation and reporting, health authority response, negotiating with pricing agencies, influence and implement publication strategy, quantitative decision making) for critical studies in a program
- Strategic statistical input and influence into one or more projects (development plan, dose-finding strategy, regulatory strategy, publication strategy, pricing & reimbursement strategy, statistical deliverables).
- Lead collaborations with clinical, regulatory and other strategic functions to drive quantitative decision making in drug development and enable successful impact on robust drug development plans
- Collaborate cross-functionally (e.g. data management, statistical programming, medical writing) to ensure timeliness and quality of statistical deliverables
- Propose and implement innovative designs and methods to optimize drug development.
- Plan, prioritize and oversee project level activities and ensure efficient resource management within or across franchise and effective partnership with vendors.
- Lead the review and implementation of health authority guidance.
- Represent biostatistics in interacting with external experts (statistical, clinical, and technical).

This position will be located at East Hanover, NJ or Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely.
Role Requirements:
Essential Requirement
- PhD and 10+ years or Masters Degree with 14+ years relevant experience in Statistics or equivalent.
- Ability to influence decision making through the development of innovative options and use of quantitative statistics for highly complex projects.
- Extensive knowledge of applying cutting edge statistical methods; expert understanding of the drug development process.
- Record of successful implementation of novel methods and/ or innovative strategies in drug development.
- Ability to recognize opportunities where machine learning, computer science and new technologies add value.
- Significant experience in health authority activities.
- Experience of leveraging and maximizing the contributions of diverse teams.
Desirable requirement
- Experience leading a team in a matrixed organization.
Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary:
The salary for this position is expected to range between $185,500 and $344,500 per year. The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.
Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors. Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards. US-based eligible employees will receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, life and disability benefits, a 401(k) with company contribution and match, and a variety of other benefits. In addition, employees are eligible for a generous time off package including vacation, personal days, holidays and other leaves.
