We are currently seeking a seasoned Custom Millwork Painter Shop Manager to lead our finishing department. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing custom finishes, stain development, and spray booth operations for demanding, design-driven clients.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all finishing operations: staining, spraying, top coating, and hand-finishing
Develop and match custom finishes per architectural/design specs
Supervise and train finishing team (sprayers, sanders, preppers)
Maintain high-quality standards and ensure consistency across projects
Manage schedule, workflow, and resource planning for the paint shop
Monitor VOC compliance, safety, and spray booth maintenance
Collaborate with production and project management teams on timelines
Ensure detailed quality control and final finish inspections before shipment
Requirements:
Minimum 7 years’ experience in high-end architectural millwork finishing
At least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial finishing role
Expertise in multiple finishing systems: conversion varnish, polyurethane, glazes, high gloss, stains
Proven ability to develop and match custom finishes (both solvent and water-based)
Hands-on experience with spray booths and HVLP/LVLP equipment
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to read shop drawings and interpret finish schedules
Bilingual (English/French) is an asset but not required
