Position: Civil Case Manager

Job Status: Full-Time, Benefits Eligible
Salary: $78,000 – $90,000
SUMMARY:
This position involves highly professional work in managing general docket civil cases in the Civil Division of the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. Responsibilities include conducting initial case management conferences, rule 230.2 status conferences in aging cases without docket activity for 24 months, writing recommendations and reports regarding civil cases, and managing the caseflow of civil cases to ensure efficient disposition. This position involves extensive client/attorney contact and requires a comprehensive understanding of civil case law, court policies and procedures, and conflict resolution. Work is performed during regularly scheduled hours and may involve additional hours as needed.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
* Minimum of seven years of legal experience, three of which must be in Civil Law
* Law degree (J.D. or LLM) strongly preferred, but not required.
* Considerable knowledge of general litigation practices.
* Knowledge or experience in conflict resolution
* Considerable knowledge of the civil laws, rules of civil procedure, and civil litigation
* Knowledge of office equipment, including computers using the Windows environment. Knowledge and skill to work on virtual systems such as TEAMS and/or ZOOM.
* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
* Knowledge or experience in system administration and project management a plus
* Admittance to the Pennsylvania Bar and maintenance of current license preferred but not required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Conducts conferences and prepares written recommendations, reports and case management orders.
* Assists in the implementation of a comprehensive case management system
* Applies negotiation strategies in conferences that involve extensive client/attorney contact.
* Prepares cases in advance of conference or proposes deadlines for cases by reviewing legal pleadings, case docket entries, proposed order, etc.
* Examines filings and case submissions and uses dashboards to efficiently manage the case flow of civil division cases in close consultation with the Calendar Control Department.
* Assists Civil Division department staff and Judges to help resolve legal issues and increase the capacity of the civil division
* Responds to appropriate inquiries from court personnel, attorneys and others concerning procedures, scheduling, and specific cases.
* Attends ACBA meetings, and events, serving on subcommittees when requested, and participating on CLE panels relating to case management and Civil Division operations.
