We're seeking a dedicated Certified Chemotherapy Technician to join our team at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the position is to prepare and dispense medications, including antineoplastic hazardous and nonhazardous medications. Additional responsibilities include inventory control and ordering, stocking, and routine cleaning of the pharmacy, assisting with clinic hazardous medication compounding, charging for medication waste, completing all required documentation for the clean room in Pharmacy Stars, and other duties as assigned by manager or area pharmacist. Responsibilities may include coverage of both the inpatient and ambulatory hem/onc pharmacies. The technician will use guided preparation technology to compound medications. The pharmacy takes many steps to reduce potential exposure to hazardous medications through environmental control, use of personal protection equipment, and use of a closed system transfer device. The technician must follow all procedures to limit employee, patient, visitors, and their own risk of exposure as defined by USP 797/800 sterile compounding and hazardous drug standards. Maintains updated knowledge and skills and contributes to the education of others. Provides age-appropriate care in accordance with Age Specific Care Guidelines. Attends huddles and team meetings. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building. The employee will also be expected to uphold the hospital's five key values, participate in quality and process improvement activities of the Department of Pharmacy.

How You'll Impact Patient Care:
Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Follows aseptic technique in a vertical flow hood and maintains clean room environment through regularly scheduled cleaning as defined by USP 797 standards.
- Ensures adequate inventory to eliminate stock outs, increases inventory turnover, and reduces waste.
- Utilizes closed system transfer devices and APOTECA robotics to limit potential exposure of the environment to hazardous medications.
- Maintains and troubleshoots IV automation technology and engages vendor in remedies as needed.
- Documents activities in the electronic medical record and other systems as needed.
- Identifies critical issues, prioritizes workload, and communicates personnel issues in a timely manner.
- Maintains competency by attending training classes, programs, and departmental meetings.
- Performs pharmaceutical calculations based on medication orders.
- Handles hazardous waste in a manner compliant with EPA and NIOSH standards.
- Supports technician manager and area pharmacists in executing initiatives to meet the goals of the area scorecard.
- Prepares antineoplastic and other hazardous intravenous medications for adult and pediatric populations and deliver to patient care areas.
What You Will Need
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- PTCB/NHA technician certification (CPhT) required.
- Active registration with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
Nice To Have (Not Required)
- Successful completion of a formal technician training program or associate degree in pharmacy technology preferred.
- One-year previous pharmacy experience preferred.
- Associate degree in a healthcare or business-related field preferred.
- Minimum one year experience in pharmacy with IV admixture skills and chemotherapy certification preferred.
- Completion of ACPE course preferred.
- Sterile compounding, hazardous drug preparation and IV experience strongly preferred.
