Job Description
The School of Information (iSchool) at Florida State University seeks to fill one (1) nine-month
tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Review of applications will begin
on September 10, 2025, and continue until the position is filled.
Job Duties
We are seeking a faculty colleague to teach and conduct research in one or more innovative
subject areas within librarianship, such as AI literacy, computational thinking, information
programs and services, information organization, government information, information policy,
youth services, digital humanities, museum informatics, and/or community engagement and
outreach. Successful candidates will have strong technical and/or analytical skills. Candidates
must be able to articulate a research agenda that aligns with the broader research interests of the
School and demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a highly interdisciplinary
environment, actively seeking external funding.
Successful applicants will be expected to teach at all levels, including courses in the school’s
bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs. Experience teaching online, as well as faceto-face, is preferred. Faculty typically teach two courses per semester each academic year. All
faculty members are expected to advise students, serve on School, College, and University
committees, and be active in professional and academic organizations.
Experience
Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in information science,
information science, information technology, or a cognate field.
Supplemental Information
The School of Information is one of three academic units within the College of Communication and Information at Florida State University. The FSU iSchool offers a Bachelor’s degree program with majors in Information Technology (IT) and Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT); Master’s degree programs in Information Technology and Information; a post-Master’s Specialist degree in Information; and a Ph.D. program in Information. The iSchool faculty also operates the eHealth Lab and iSensor Lab, and is a founding partner in FSU’s Innovation Hub, an innovation center and fab lab/makerspace for teaching and research that utilizes technologies including virtual/augmented reality, 3D printing, and 3D visualization. The School of Information, which launched in 1926, was formally founded in 1947 and is nationally ranked among the top information science graduate schools in the country. The iSchool's Information Technology Masters' program is nationally ranked at #8 among IT programs, #5 among IT programs for veterans, and the ALA-accredited Master's in Information is ranked among U.S. News & World Report's “Best Graduate Programs in Library and Information Science” as 12th overall. School of Information faculty have been awarded over $50 million in federal, state, local, and foundation research grants, and maintain strong connections to the community through various information, literacy, and service initiatives. Funding has been received from NIH, IMLS, NSF, and the DOD as well as The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The McKnight Foundation, and others. iSchool faculty have strong collaborations with researchers in the College of Medicine, College of Social Work, College of Nursing, College of Education, Health and Human Sciences, and College of Arts and Sciences. The iSchool is a member of the College of Communication and Information, has a student
population of approximately 390 undergraduates and 566 graduate students. The ischool boasts
18 tenured/tenure-track and 10 full-time non-tenure-track faculty members. The College is a
