Job ResponsibilitiesRIT is seeking a dynamic and experienced technical leader to serve as the Assistant Director/Chief Engineer for Engineering and Event Services within the Marketing and Communication division-University Production Services department. This role is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and technical operations of major campus productions and events, including live broadcasts and streaming services. The successful candidate will provide strategic engineering leadership, manage a team of technical professionals, and collaborate with internal and external clients to deliver high-quality audio/visual experiences across the university.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Engineering and Event Services Group, including full-time staff, assistants, and contractors.
- Collaborate with clients to plan and execute technical aspects of productions, including logistics, equipment setup, and live operations.
- Design and implement technical systems and equipment configurations for events, broadcasts, and consulting engagements.
- Oversee budgeting and cost estimation for equipment rentals, purchases, and technical services.
- Serve as a senior technical advisor for all production-related services involving audio/visual technology.
- Develop bid and scope documents, evaluate vendor proposals, and manage contracts for AV installations across campus.
- Contribute to strategic planning and institutional leadership within University Production Services and Marketing and Communications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in audio/visual engineering, broadcast production, or technical project management.
- Expertise in audio/video system design, event layout, and equipment integration.
- Strong background in studio and remote television production.
- Familiarity with SMPTE 2110, AES67, Dante, UHD/HD production environments.
- Proficiency in project management and AV infrastructure planning.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead teams and manage complex technical projects.
- Commitment to continuous learning and service excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Television Production or a related field.
- Experience in an educational or university environment.
